Dr. Connelly is certified by the American Boards of Dermatology and Internal Medicine. (Fellow, ABD, ABIM). He completed training in both specialties at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital of the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. During this time he performed bench research in the lab of his mentor and friend, Alan Erslev, MD, the discoverer of erythropoietin.
Since completion of residency in 1985, Dr. Connelly has practiced skin cancer surgery in Stuart, FL. During that time he has treated over 60,000 of skin cancer which is unrivaled in both the United States and in the world.
He has published over twenty five peer-reviewed medical papers on topics which include the need for properly obtained patient consent for sentinel lymph node biopsy in melanoma and a major study of 334 cases basal cell cancer of the head and neck. This study, which shows a long-term success rate in treatment of basal cell carcinoma of 99%, was published in Journal of Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery in February 2009. JRPS rejects 85% of submissions.
